Cruelty Free – who can you trust? Whats the truth?

If you are reading this you are either a cruelty free blogger, interested in cruelty free, vegan, make up professional or just an all round good guy/girl! But what drives us mad down here on LJFarm is the misinformation and confusion that is spread by so many people people either through good intentions or intentional bias - its so easy for anyone just starting out on their cruelty free journey to assume that everything they read MUST be true. At Lilian Jones we do not subscribe to any group nor are we part of a wider company or organisation - that gives us the freedom to say what we want and more importantly, what we believe in. BUAV, PETA, Humane Society, NatureWatch - all names that many of us are familiar with and many of us respect as arbiters of truth and testimony.  But do we all understand the difference between them, do we understand what they really stand for and more importantly...

Twittering On

So, tweets are not something that comes easily to us at LJ Farm - we are just far too wordy and chatty to stick with 140-odd characters! September sees a new start (or rather a refresh of an old one!) and we go back to the long form post - yay blogging is back! This will give us the chance to explain our ethics, our products, our politics and to hopefully share with you all the reasons why we believe in free-from products. Hopefully you will all join us and enjoy, love, hate, comment on some of our thoughts.  ...

Is vintage here to stay?

So, as we all know vintage is EVERYWHERE .....don't get me wrong I'm not complaining, its how we make a living! But is it sustainable, is it here to stay or is it a trend that will change and then disappear? I think, to a certain extent there will always be a fascination with that kind of faded glamour epitomised by the golden age of hollywood and the 50s but as we all age and our children grow up, does that mean that the appeal of the 50s will be replaced by the 80s and 90s? What do you think?  Are we stuck in a time warp of the 50s or will it just phase out and get replaced by antiques, retro or flea markets?  ...

Going cruelty free…

Our BareBear range of BareSoaps and BareCandles are designed to be as natural as possible and we wholeheartedly support the anti-animal testing stance taken by the cosmetics industry as a result of the EU testing ban. However, we do not support the BUAV and our products will not display any BUAV logos despite the integrity of the natural and cruelty free nature being intact. Quite simply we do not agree with the BUAVs association with the BodyShop given that the BodyShop is owned by L'Oreal, one of the worst proponents of animal testing, in our opinion. So, please be assured our products ARE cruelty free, natural and free from SLS, Parabens, Palm Oil and all the other nasties.   If you want to read up on cruelty free please try this  ...

Umm, so just what is vintage???

Stupid question I know but when you google it you get a multitude of answers including dating vintage as anything from last week to fifty years ago; at least I'm not the only one who thinks its odd - try this, mind you it was from several years ago! So, tell me what do you call vintage?  Is it an age, a style, a look or specific item or time period?      ...

Is repro vintage destroying true vintage?

Just a question cos its EVERYWHERE these days - that trendy, white washed, old-ish but you can't quite date it style. Somewhere between vintage, New England and beachy its just not VINTAGE!! Thinking of stuff you find in Primark or Tesco Or is touted as an idea in home design magazines Its just so lacking in truth and authenticity that it dilutes the power of real vintage.  The power of strong  well made furniture, beautiful old well designed pieces, amazing china, hand crafted delicate linens - the stuff our parents were pressured into getting rid of as it wasn't trendy and it didnt look like Ikea! For us at Lilian Jones, vintage is about paying tribute to the past; to the amazing people and things that shape our history not painting beautiful furniture cos everyone else is! And the more this faux vintage takes over the more amazing pieces will be binned cos they don't get past the taste police! Lets reclaim the past and...
